Course Design for Mobile Learning and the Flipped Classroom

Extended Abstract:

Engaging students in an interactive learning environment is the most challenging and rewarding aspects of any blended course. It involves changing the role of a professor to a facilitator and every student as a full participant in active learning. This Information Session will cover some of the tools from flipped classroom strategies, "Active Learning" strategies, and the use of mobile devices to create a learning environment that engages students in an active learning environment.

This information session will:
- Use the definition of mLearning as utilizing small smartphone screens (or tablets) to engage students in the course
- Demonstrate online tools that foster student interaction.
- Explain how to align course outcomes with activities in the course and why that is pivotal to creating an engaging interactive online course.

Participants, who bring and use their laptops, will be actively engaged in discovering various tools and techniques in using Mobile Learning and Flipped strategies to create an engaging, interactive hybrid learning environment.
