For institutions who operate on a performance-based funding model, early intervention is crucial to the well-being of both the students and the school. This session will show you how Haywood Community College is using a Moodle plug-in to develop their own Early Alert system for FREE.
Early Alert systems are gaining in popularity but can be cost-prohibitive in times of low enrollment and/or tight budgets. To circumvent this cost concern, Haywood Community College turned to a Moodle plug-in to create their own early alert system and they are doing it for FREE!
As a part of their Quality Enhancement Plan, Haywood Community College was looking for a way to track student progress across multiple classes in real time as an indicator of need for intervention. Through the use of a Mentee block and their own My Navigate course, advisors can quietly check in on their students to offer support services before it is too late.
This design also increases the level of quality in classes, communication with students, and expectations among co-workers. The approach has provided unexpected opportunities to also address issues such as plagiarism and digital orientation.
