Abstract:

Poster projects are dated and difficult to manage.  Educators cling to what has worked in the past due to a fear of looking ahead to the future.  This presentation will discuss how to move traditional poster projects online with Adobe Behance and how to gain instructor buy in the process.

Extended Abstract:

The poster project is a staple of many educators.  It is used across a variety of disciplines and skill levels.  This session will look at how to move away from the, now irrelevant, tradition of poster project and translate the assignment into something that will allow students to build their digital literacy, enhance their skills, and create a portfolio piece that will help them to be real world ready.

During this presentation we will investigate Behance, an online tool from Adobe, and how it can be used to recreate the poster project in a more modern fashion.  Attendees will learn how Behance can be used to add images, type, audio and video to create a project that both students and professors will enjoy.

The presentation will give real world examples of how the conversion from print to online helped two very different programs, Architecture and Honors, to transform outdated assignments into projects that have been highlighted by both the university as well as Adobe themselves!

The audience will be introduced to how they can create a profile, upload content, and share their work with the world.  By the time the presentation is over, attendees will be able to use Behance to create their own showcase of work and have the knowledge necessary to use it in their class or introduce others to the technology.

At the end of the session there will an audience led discussion about other potential uses for the project as well as a Q&A.  Audience interaction is encouraged and questions throughout the session are welcome.

We will also discuss further advantages of the transition such as cost saving, ease of collecting and grading assignments, and student engagement.
