This workshop provides an overview of accessibility and Universal Design. The goal of this session is to help instructors create and manage accessible online course materials for their students to maximize engagement and success. Participants will develop skills and best practices to make their course materials usable to a broad range of students.
Students bring a wide variety of visual, hearing, cognitive, physical and communication abilities to learning. Instructors may not be aware of the accessibility issues in their online content. This workshop will increase their awareness about the importance of building accessible content and using Universal Design to ensure their courses are inclusive to all students. Participants will be able to create accessible documents in Word, PDF, and PowerPoint and take advantage of the editing tools in their Learning Management System. Assistive technologies and best practices on organizing your course content in an accessible manner will also be covered in this workshop.
