Abstract:

Video is a great method to communicate with your audience, yet, most video is inaccessible. In this presentation we explore why making your videos accessible will help elevate the experience for all users and benefit your organization as a whole.

Extended Abstract:

More video content is uploaded to the web in 1 month than TV has created in 3 decades.

Unfortunately, not everyone can access all the video that is being produced.

When your videos aren’t accessible, you are alienating a big portion of the population. In America alone, there are 48 million people who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing and 23.7 million Americans who have some degree of vision loss.

Making your videos accessible will help you reach a wider audience. But beyond the accessibility benefits, video accessibility can also elevate the experience for all your viewers.

In this presentation, we will explore how accessible video is better video. We will look at the current state of video and dive into the benefits and use cases of closed captions and audio description.
