Extended Abstract:

For over 25 years, the Center for Distributed Learning’s online faculty development course—IDL6543 Interactive Distributed Learning—has been the gold standard for online faculty development and training. This award-winning, non-credit course models how to build and teach an online course using sound pedagogical principles and is delivered in an M (mixed) mode. Over the years, the training has grown as the university has grown, offering strategies that enrich student learning while fostering a culture on campus that adds value to the online teaching and learning initiative. By using a scaffolding approach to to promote faculty success in the online teaching environment, you can take your institution from blah to a cheering RAH!

In this Discovery session, we will highlight the “must-haves” for any successful faculty development plan and share resources that will help participants include these elements in their own faculty development programs. Tips include enhancing faculty engagement, maintaining a high-quality faculty development course, and encouraging faculty buy-in. Instructional designers Dr. Shelly Wyatt and Tina Calandrino will answer questions on their facilitation and on-going improvements in IDL6543.

Participants will receive a 5 point “Must Have” list for their faculty development initiatives along with free, open-source resources that include a templated faculty development plan.
