Through adaptive micro-courses and study tools powered by machine learning, our goal is to improve students' conceptual understandings and overall academic success. This session will describe current works in progress, encourage conversation, elicit feedback from attendees, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Students of today are constantly connected to their mobile devices. Integrated in all aspects of their lives, mobile devices provide an opportunity to enhance students' learning. Adaptive micro-courses and study tools, available on the Minute School mobile and web apps, allow students to study and review - anywhere, anytime. Designed and reviewed by subject matter experts, the micro-courses are developed by students for students. Convenient, inexpensive, and easy-to-follow higher ed course content gives students the opportunity to learn and better understand key concepts. Short videos, lessons, and assessments are delivered on a platform powered by machine learning, allowing students to determine what areas to focus on most. Immediate, individualized feedback helps students know what areas they may be struggling with. During assessments, reasoning and explanations are provided after every question, whether the student answers correctly or incorrectly. Dynamically-generated questions give students unique practice sessions. Points and badges are awarded as students move through the micro-courses, allowing them to track their progress. Study tools promote students' conceptual understandings within and across disciplines as they engage with the platform. Micro-courses and study tools are continually enhanced through the integration of new course content to reflect the latest research and through the addition of new features.
Attendees at this session will learn about current works in progress. Conversation and feedback will be encouraged, particularly around how these educational technologies may improve students’ conceptual understandings and overall academic success. Discussion on the development of upcoming features will be included. Opportunities for collaboration will also be explored in this session.
