Experiential learning experiences (ELE) can serve as effective instructional methodologies for online sport management students. This workshop will discuss ELE strategies aimed at enabling students to apply the theoretical knowledge they ascertain virtually through coursework in practical sport settings thereby maintaining an understanding of sport industry trends and demands.
Combined with a theoretical foundation, experiential learning experiences can serve as effective instructional methodologies in enabling students to apply knowledge ascertained through their coursework in practical sport settings. These experiences are not only rewarding for students, but for faculty members and the community at-large as well. This informative workshop session will showcase a few of the sport-related experiential learning experiences that online Sport Management programs at Johnson C. Smith University have participated in since the program's inception in September of 2015. Objectives of these experiential learning experiences projects included, but were not limited to: 1. Providing opportunities for students to ascertain practical experiences working in the sport industry; 2. Fostering the development of future sport professionals and ensuring their awareness of issues and trends that affect the sport and business industries; 3. Preparing competent, global-minded, and well-rounded future sport professionals who can effectively meet and address industry demands; and 4. Promoting the development of the students’ hard and soft professional skills in the areas of: public speaking, management, organization, and customer service. Workshop attendees will gain insight regarding the ways in which to establish and successfully implement similar engaging experiences for online students.
