Creation and implementation of an internal workforce learning and development program

Abstract:

BCD Travel Learning Solutions is comprised of trainers and curriculum designers from all backgrounds.  Many of the trainers are from the travel industry with little formal background in learning and development. In order to get these individuals up to speed with learning and development concepts and principles, BCD Travel Learning Solutions created a robust Learning and Development Program.

The BCD Travel Learning and Development Program consists of eLearning, virtual instructor led, short powtoon videos and coursework from external sources.  A set of supportive pages were built in social network used within the company (Quikipedia) to guide the user.  Additionally, the program was set up in the company’s LMS (Knowledge Hub) to send email prompts in order to guide the user through the program.  The supportive Quikipedia pages contain additional supplementary exercises that the participant completes after each course.

At the beginning of the program, the participant takes a self-assessment that is created in alignment with competencies associated with their position.  Their results display recommended coursework.  The completion of this coursework is voluntary.  It is up to the participant to take the courses and prepare for the capstone, which they must pass in order to complete the program.  Once the participant feels ready, the complete their Capstone Project.  This project must involve going through the entire ADDIE process and documenting each step.  The participant is asked to seek out a mentor from the leadership team that can help them through the process. The mentor evaluates the capstone progress and final presentation/facilitation/product (depending on the format).  The participant submits this evaluation and the participant’s manager makes the final determination if the capstone is passed.
