The presenters teach in diverse subject areas - composition, psychology and engineering- and have found that blended learning enhances their content. They will share their experiences in adapting this modality to their disciplines and discuss the implementation of an informal interdisciplinary Professional Learning Community that helps to support their blended pedagogy.
In the opening to her book titled Blended Learning, Francine Glazer argues that a great deal of our modern daily tasks and lives - think email, social media, digital newspaper subscriptions and online bill pay- are online, making our lives blended or “partially virtual, partially tangible.” As such, it make sense that our teaching and learning would mirror that dichotomy. As instructors, our challenge in bridging these worlds for effective learning experiences for our students come when we consider how this model looks within our individual disciplines.
