In this session, you will explore the nature of critical thinking and find out how to design activities to help learners improve this essential skill.
A Wall Street Journal article reported a seemingly paradoxical situation: Employers agree that critical thinking is an essential skill for success, but there is no generally-accepted definition of the term. Other studies show that support for teaching critical-thinking skills is quite high, but it's not 100% clear what this means if we don't know what critical thinking is or what kinds of educational experiences improve these skills. Learning professionals often struggle to integrate critical thinking into their course experiences, and would benefit from applying a clear model of critical thinking that fits their learning goals and the online environment.
