This presentation centers around developing and sharing strategies for addressing diversity in the design of online courses through representation, cost, access, transparency, and relevancy. After defining each of these categories and giving worked examples, the presentation will engage attendees to contribute their own effective practices and ideas.
In this talk, participants will learn ten strategies for addressing diversity in the design of online, hy-flex, or hybrid courses. The first six strategies address representation, cost, and access in the selection of course materials, multimedia, visuals, and technologies. The last four cover insuring transparency and relevancy. As a transition to discussion, the presentation will conclude with a brief poll asking participants to rate the strategies according to their perceived relevancy and efficacy to their own instruction.
By the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Recognize areas in online course design where strategies for diversity can be adopted.
- Identify at least three strategies for addressing a diverse group of learners in their online courses.
